INTERESTED
IN SETTING
UP A FOOD DRIVE?
If
you think you're interested
in setting up a food
drive, give some thought
to where and when
– is it in your hometown
or another city you're
visiting?
Are
you providing yourself
enough time to set
it up and get it organized
well in advance of
the show?
|
RESEARCH
YOUR COMMUNITY |
| |
The
first step after deciding
where and when is to
do some research.
Find the food banks
that service the community
in which you're hosting
the drive. Research
the venue – is it conducive
to holding a drive there
or will you need to
plan an alternate gathering
place (i.e., Smith's
Olde Bar before the
New Year's Show)?
If the venue is not
conducive to holding
a drive there, research
where Widespread Panic
fans will be most likely
to hang out before the
show. |
BE
PREPARED TO WORK! |
| |
Regardless
of where you hold the
drive, be prepared to
volunteer for at least
a few hours before doors
open. You will
need to be at the location
you've set up before
fans start to congregate
until doors open. |
THEN,
CONTACT US. |
| |
Once you've done this
homework and have made
the commitment to man
the tables for a few
hours, contact Josh
Stack and Jen Jones
at info@panicfansforfood.org
and let us know your
possible plans. We will
then send you a detailed
information packet on
everything from where
to set up, what supplies
you'll need, how to
write and send out a
press release, and how
to prepare for the unexpected.
|
PRE-SHOW
ORGANIZING |
| |
After
receiving the packet,
Josh and Jen will help
you get permission from
Brown Cat (if it's at
the venue, this is crucial
permission) and the
venue manager.
You'll then need to
organize the food bank
into your plans and
arrange the times for
them to meet you before
the show with collection
receptacle and after
the show to pick up
the receptacles and
any money you've raised. |
| |
Just
remember that the more
organized you are, the
more fun you will have.
The less you have to
worry about last minute
details, the more fun
you'll have. This is
about feeling good helping
out others and meeting
new people in a scene
that we all know and
love. However, it is
crucial that these drives
are performed with as
much diligence as possible. |
