‘This is obviously and awesomely a critique on the scene. If you like this band, then you should know what I’m talking about. It’s calling “fans” out on their pretentious “holier-than-thou” attitudes.’

I have heard many different meanings to this song, but I like to believe that it’s frequently about religion.

The part ‘Give us this day, our daily dose of faux affliction,’ is a twist on the prayer ‘Give us this day our daily bread’. ‘Forgive our sins, forged at the pulpit..’ It’s basically saying that the devout people are fakes and don’t in fact believe any of it.
‘Cause I am a new wave gospel sharp and you’ll be thy witness. So gentleman if you’re gonna preach, for God sakes preach with conviction’
Is explaining that anyone could pretend to be devout, and could be more convincing than you are. They are accusing the people of being posers.

    Hope this helped you!! (:
